The Successful Studio Model
This lesson is all about the “Successful Studio Business Model” and the best way to get new students into your studio.
The first secret to studio success is all about RELATIONSHIPS. That’s why "the place they start is the place they stay". And that’s why you’re typically NOT going to be able to attract dancers who are already involved with another studio.
And by ages 8, 9, 10, and up… most kids interested in dance are already with a studio.
So, if all the dancers are already dancing at other studios how the heck are you supposed to find new students?
While it’s true that all the older dancers in town may be “taken”, there’s still plenty of opportunity to build a successful studio.
The key is to meet new families who are just starting in dance.
Remember, “the place they start is the place they stay?”
You simply need to meet the younger families in your community FIRST so they have a chance to get started at your studio.
That makes sense, right?
Most new dance families start thinking about dance for their child pretty early, as young as 3-4 years old in fact.
The good news is that these families who are brand new to dance are fair game.
They don’t have a studio to call “home” yet.
This is the big, opportunity hidden in every community across the planet when it comes to the dance studio industry (yep, even in yours!!).
Like a goldmine just waiting to be discovered and claimed, all the opportunity is hidden in the tiny tot age groups: typically the 3, 4, and 5-year-old students.
This is the sweet spot to introduce new families to YOUR studio and have them start building those relationships and connections with YOU.
That’s the second secret to dance studio success: It’s all about the Tiny Tots!!
When I FINALLY realized that. Everything changed for me as a studio owner.
Instead of wasting time and money trying to advertise and recruit teens, tweens, and even grade-school students I simply started to focus on my tiny tot dance program.
I couldn’t BELIEVE the difference in my experience.
Not only was my workload exponentially simplified (promoting ONE program instead of dozens) but I got much better results too.
I found out that tiny tots are the FASTEST & EASIEST students to enroll and that I was able to enroll them YEAR-ROUND!
My student enrollment and profits exploded once I started focusing on tiny tots.
Easier AND better results… all because I started to focus on building the base of my studio.
All because I started to meet new dance families FIRST in my community.
You can get these results too. You just need to focus on building the base of your studio- your tiny tots.
I call this the Pyramid Studio Model.
The idea is that at the base of the pyramid is your entry-level program. The one where you’re attracting all those brand new 3, 4, and 5-year-old students into your studio.
The middle and top tiers are programs for older students and more advanced students.
With a pyramid model, each lower level acts as a feeder program into the next level up.
Remember, “the place they start is the place they stay” right?
Studios with awesome dance companies and competition teams didn’t recruit those dancers from the streets. Nope. They grew their own. Those teens who are now dancing 10-12 hours a week, and investing hundreds of dollars a month in tuition didn’t start that way. Most likely, those teens started at their studio when they were 3, 4, or 5 years old and they just kept coming.
It’s just that simple.
They just started at that studio one day… and they kept coming…
Again, it comes back to those tiny tot students. Those 3, 4, and 5-year-old students as the base of your studio. The rock-solid foundation upon which everything else is built.
The 3, 4, and 5-year-olds you bring into your studio today will be the future of your studio for years to come.
Those tiny tots are the KEY to your future and the KEY to your success.
Happy growing!
